Enhancing skills, ensuring safety
UK law now permits Category B driving licence holders to drive an Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) weighing up to 4.25 tonnes. This vehicle must not be driven outside of Great Britain. It must be used for the transportation of goods, not be towing a trailer and the driver must have completed a minimum of 5 hours accredited training.
An alternatively fuelled vehicle means a motor vehicle powered by electricity, natural gas, biogas or hydrogen; or hydrogen and electricity.
Training may only be provided by members of a government recognised LGV register (NRI). LGV training and exam centre with instructors qualified to deliver AFV training.
The Course aims to provide the candidate with a greater awareness of the risks associated with driving, gain the ability to reflect on their own driving performance and improve on areas that need further development. They will also be able to control the risks associated with carrying loads, be able to plan suitable AFV journeys, know and understand the various fuel types for an AFV and how to refuel safely and understand what to do in the event of an emergency and the associated risks.
Candidates will need to successfully complete the course to the instructor’s satisfaction in order to achieve the qualification.
Candidates must hold a full UK Driving Licence and be aged 17 years and above.
